THE BOOK
"Just because my name is on the cover does not mean I wrote the book all by myself. In my case, I have always wanted, needed, and been given a great amount of help in the creation of my"solo" works"...The Author

             Many people contributed and several of them did so by responding to a brief letter requesting help in preparing a lecture on leadership.

            The book came ten years after the lecture and I have included material from forty-nine people who responded to my request.  Collectively, they represent men and women of various skin colours and religious faiths who are leading practitioners of human resource development efforts in the national and international arenas. All have received international regognition for leadership that they have provided in their respective organizations.

           This is a remarkable demonstration of Networking and a willingness to share experience, advice and wisdom in the cause of international advancement.

 THE LETTER

Dear...

I come to you today with a rather unusual and difficult request. I come to borrow some of your wisdom and gain some sound advice.

As Director of the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education, I have to give a lecture to senior officials from some seventeen countries in the Asia/Pacific region served by the staff college.

As the subject of my lecture, I have chosen Leadership, with particular reference to leadership in human development.

Now comes the difficult request---can you give me in a few words your requirements for leadership? What, in fact, are the attributes of leaders you have known?

I must apologise for troubling you in this way, but I hope that it will benefit international understanding in which I know you have such a great interest.
